Dr. Ulrich Hofmann was born in 1967. He studied Physics at the University of Marburg (Germany). Since 1995 Dr. Ulrich Hofmann has been leading the development of optical MEMS mirrors at Fraunhofer ISIT. In 2015 he published the accumulated R&D work of two decades in his PhD-thesis on the development of biaxial MEMS scanning mirrors for laser projection displays. He is inventor of more than 20 patents and patent applications and he published more than 50 conference papers and research articles on MEMS mirror related topics.

Together with Thomas von Wantoch he founded the company “OQmented” in April 2018. OQmented will commercialize the MEMS mirror technology of Fraunhofer ISIT by offering complete MEMS mirror based scanning solutions for the automotive market, consumer market and for industrial applications like laser material processing.

* Fraunhofer ISIT : ISIT is one of 72 different Fraunhofer Institutes that are located in Germany. Fraunhofer is a German organization for applied research & development that predominantly supports German and European industries but Fraunhofer is also open for cooperation with industrial partners and R&D organizations from all other countries. Fraunhofer ISIT has a main focus on MEMS technology. MEMS is an acronym for Micro-Electro-Mechanical-Systems. Typical examples of MEMS are inertial sensors for automotive and consumer industry but also MEMS microphones for smartphones, tablets, personal computers, etc. . Fraunhofer ISIT looks back on 30 years of experience in MEMS development supporting a large number of different branches and markets.
